To find the PDF editing tools that are present in Preview, we must first open the document we want to go edit. It may happen that when opening a document, it will not open with Preview if the settings have been changed. To open a document with Preview we need to right-click the document, select the “Open with” item, and choose Preview from the list that appears.
Once we have opened the file we want to edit, we can edit it at will. To make the bar with all the editing tools appear, we have to click on the “Show editing toolbar ” button , which has an icon with a circle and a pencil inside and is located in the upper right corner. After pressing this button we will find all the tools in the upper left corner of the window. With the Aa button we will be able to select the text in the document, clicking on the button with the writing pen icon we will be able to draw freely on the document.
With the “T” key we can add custom wording, while with the icon with the square and circle we can insert geometric shapes and arrows to the document. There are many other options for customizing documents, highlighting text, adding a signature, adding notes, and changing the style of text.
To merge and split documents, we need to turn on thumbnail view from the View menu, found on the top bar of our Apple computer. With this menu we will be able to reorder, delete and add page thumbnails in the left sidebar, better organizing our files. In the same top bar we can find the Tools menu, from which we can rotate document pages as we wish.
We need to know that any changes we make will be saved directly to the original file. If we want to avoid this situation, we can save a different copy of the document. To do this, we need to select the File menu on the top bar of the computer and choose the “Export as PDF” item, this will create a copy of the file with the changes we have made.
All of Preview’s editing tools can also be used on images (so jpg, png etc. format files) as well as PDF documents, making it a convenient and useful program in many situations.

LibreOffice is a free cross-platform productivity software produced by The Document Foundation. Somewhat like the Microsoft Office suite, it includes a number of programs for word processing (Writer), spreadsheets (Calc), presentations (Impress), graphs and drawings (Draw), databases (Base), and mathematical formulas (Math), and is even compatible with other office suites, such as Microsoft Office.
First of all, we should know that this program is usually preinstalled on many computers, but in case it is not present on our PC, we can download it for free from the web. To download LibreOffice to our PC, we need to log on to the Libreoffice.org Web site and click on the Downloads section, which we find in the top bar of the site. At this point, we need to select the version of LibreOffice we want and the operating system of our computer and then press the download button.
Once we have completed the download, if we are using Windows, we need to open the installation package and click on the “Run” button. During the installation process, you will only need to press on the “Next” buttons, select the type of installation, the destination folder for the files, and then press on “Install” and “Finish” in order to complete the setup. As for Linux and Ubuntu, once we download the program, we can proceed to the installation process and complete it from the terminal or with graphical setup.
Once LibreOffice is installed, we can use it to edit PDF files. To edit documents with this program, we need to open it and display the suite on the screen, and then click on the “Open File” button located at the top left and select the PDF document to be edited. That done, we will be able to see the file in question on the screen with plenty of tools to use to customize it.
With the tools we will have available, we will have the ability to insert text areas, format text, graphically edit the file, add images, videos, symbols, shapes, lists, etc. There are so many changes we can make to files, the tools we have are so many and make it very similar to Microsoft Word. Using a tool is very simple, you have to click on the icon that is in the bar on the left or at the top, and then click in the place in the document where we want to use them, adjusting the settings in the menus.
Once we have finished editing a document, we can save the edited PDF, creating a copy with our additions, otherwise the original document will suffer from the customizations we have made. Using it we can rotate document pages, enlarge them, draw on them, add text, images, arrows, circles, lines, and edit text. It also has many other features and is very easy to use.
To download this app we need to open the store included with our phone, Play Store for Android devices and App Store for the iPhone and iPad. Search for “Xodo PDF” and once found, click on Install to proceed with the download. Once installed we can immediately open it and start viewing and editing the documents we are interested in.
To open a document with this app, we need to find the document in our smartphone’s file manager and open it, at which point we select Xodo PDF Reader and Editor and can start editing it as we wish.
