In this article we will go over the most successful DC series made from the 2000s to the present, describing their storylines and some of their characteristics.

Titans (2018)
Titans is an American television series, created by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti, based on some famous DC Comics characters. The series premiered on DC Universe on October 12, 2018, and then on Netflix worldwide.
The plot of the TV show follows the adventures of a group of young superheroes who come together to form Team Titans. The team consists of Robin (Dick Grayson), played by Brenton Thwaites, Raven (Rachel Roth), played by Teagan Croft, Starfire (Koriand’r), played by Anna Diop, and Beast Boy (Garfield Logan), played by Ryan Potter.
One of the strengths of Titans lies in ‘the focus on the characters and their relationships. Throughout the series, in fact, the lives of the team members and the internal dynamics that shake up the course of the entire plot are told. As the Titans try to defeat Deathstroke, they also meet new characters such as Aqualad, a former member of the team, and Rose Wilson, Deathstroke’s daughter. The second season culminates with the superhero group splitting up due to certain events.
In the third season, the superhero group Titans are now disbanded. Dick joins the Gotham City Police Department where he works with Barbara Gordon, Commissioner Gordon’s daughter, to fight crime. Rachel and Gar travel to Themyscira, the island of the Amazons, where they meet Wonder Girl, a young superheroine who becomes an ally.
Meanwhile, Kory returns to his home planet to face his past and meet his family. Soon, however, a new enemy called Blackfire makes his appearance on Earth, and the Titans gather to fight him together.
Krypton (2018)
Krypton is a science fiction television series, based on the story of Superman, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The series ran from March 21, 2018 to August 14, 2019, and was canceled after only two seasons.
The TV show is set on the planet Krypton and tells the story of Seg-El, Superman’s grandfather, about 200 years before the birth of his grandson. Another element that makes Doom Patrol an interesting and innovative series is its staging. The cinematography is neat and detailed, creating an atmosphere that evokes the design of the original comic books.

Plot
The plot follows the events of a group of characters with extraordinary abilities, but also terrible deformities, who struggle to find a sense of belonging and a place in the world.
The series begins with the introduction of the individual team members, who all find themselves at the height of a personal crisis. Robotman (played by Brendan Fraser) is a former race car driver who, following a serious accident that destroyed his body, had to have his brain transplanted inside a robot. Negative Man (played by Matt Bomer) was a jet pilot who, while testing an experimental plane, is hit by a mysterious radioactive cloud, which turns him into a walking atomic reactor. Crazy Jane (played by Diane Guerrero) is a woman with 64 different personalities, each with her own powers. Elastic-Woman (played by April Bowlby) is a young actress whose body can deform impressively. Finally, the Chief (played by Timothy Dalton) represents the mentor and leader of the group and serves as the glue for all these quirky characters.
The team lives in an isolated estate called Doom Manor, where they try to find a sense of normalcy and belonging. The Chief tries to help his protégés understand and control their powers, while at the same time trying to protect them from a mysterious organization called the Bureau of Normalcy, which wants to capture and study them.
The series is also full of references to the original comics, but there is no shortage of novelties and surprises. For example, a new character is introduced in the final season, Dorothy Spinner (played by Abigail Shapiro), the Chief’s daughter, who has the power to create imaginative imaginings that become reality.
Swamp Thing (2019)

Swamp Thing’s struggle to protect the swamp becomes an important metaphor for humanity’s struggle to preserve the natural environment and its biodiversity.
Some interesting and well-developed secondary characters are also introduced such as, the mayor of the town, who tries to maintain a balance between the interests of the residents and those of big business, and the Sunderland family, who harbor dark secrets and play a crucial role in the plot.
Pennyworth (2019)
Pennyworth is a two-season television series created by Bruno Heller and based on the character of Alfred Pennyworth, known as Batman ‘s reliable butler in the DC comic book stories.
The series, produced by Epix, is set in 1960s London and follows the adventures of young Alfred Pennyworth (played by Jack Bannon), a former British soldier trying to make a living as a disco bouncer.
The series explores Alfred’s past by showing how he learned his various skills, such as hand-to-hand combat, archery and the ability to solve difficult cases, which made him a valuable ally of the Dark Knight.
In addition to the basic plot, the series also deals with a number of complex issues, such as corruption in British politics, the violence of war, and the struggle for individual freedom.
Pennyworth, as we have already mentioned, is set in 1960s London, immersed in a unique atmosphere reminiscent of the James Bond films and the novels of John le Carré. Plot

The plot follows Alfred’s adventures as he tries to make his way in London life, helping his old flame Esme (played by Emma Paetz) run her nightclub and working as a bodyguard for billionaire Thomas Wayne (played by Ben Aldridge).
Alfred and Thomas become friends, and together they begin to investigate the illicit activities of the Raven Society. The latter is led by charismatic leader Lord Harwood (played by Jason Flemyng), and aims to establish a new world order through violence and control of politics.
Harwood is supported by his trusted collaborator, Bet Sykes (played by Paloma Faith), a murderous psychopath who becomes an obsession for the series protagonist.
The second season sees Alfred and Thomas facing a new threat: the British Union of Fascists (BUF), a far-right political party seeking to take over the British government. Alfred becomes involved in a plot to assassinate BUF leader Oswald Mosley (played by Sam Strike), but things do not go as planned.
The series ends with a major twist, the meeting between Alfred and Martha Kane (played by Emma Corrin), the woman who will become Bruce Wayne’s mother.
Watchmen (2019)
Watchmen is an American television series, first broadcast in 2019, created by Damon Lindelof for HBO and based on the 1986 comic book of the same name written by Alan Moore and drawn by Dave Gibbons.
It represents a continuation of the Watchmen universe, telling the events that take place 34 years after the events of the original comic book.
The series is set in an alternate reality where masked heroes have been banned and American society is divided between supporters of conservative President Robert Redford and white supremacists of the Seventh Cavalry.

Stargirl (2020)
Stargirl is an American superhero television series created by Geoff Johnsfor the DC Universe streaming service and The CW.
The series is based on the DC Comics character of the same name, created by Johns and Lee Moder, and follows the adventures of Courtney Whitmore, a high school girl who discovers that she is the descendant of a lost hero and decides to take his place as Stargirl to fight crime and the forces of evil.
The plot develops coherently and with just the right amount of action, drama, and humor, addressing important themes such as friendship, family, self-discovery, and responsibility.
Stargirl also features an outstanding cast of actors, with Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore, Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan, Amy Smart, who plays Courtney’s mother, and Joel McHale, who plays Sylvester Pemberton.
Finally, the animation of the series turns out to be bright and colorful fitting perfectly with the optimistic and hopeful atmosphere of the story.
Plot
The plot of the series begins when Courtney moves with her mother and stepfather to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Here he meets Pat Dugan, the former assistant to Sylvester Pemberton, aka Starman, a Justice Society of America (JSA) hero who passed away many years ago.
After finding Starman ‘s cosmic belt inside Pat’s garage, Courtney begins to investigate the man’s past and discovers the truth about his former superhero identity.
Courtney then decides to take Starman’s place in the guise of Stargirl and forms a new superhero team to fight crime and evil forces in Blue Valley.
The team includes the children of the original JSA members, including Yolanda Montez(Wildcat), Beth Chapel (Doctor Mid-Nite), and Rick Tyler (Hourman), who join Courtney in fighting the threats that arise.
The series also features several antagonists, including the dangerous supervillain Icicle, played by Neil Jackson, and the mysterious and powerful Dragon King, played by Nelson Lee. In addition, an additional threat also appears later in the season: the Injustice Society of America (ISA), a group of supervillains opposed to the JSA.
As Courtney adjusts to her new role as Stargirl, she must also deal with the challenges of her life as a teenager, including bonding with her friends and family. In particular, the series focuses on the relationship between Courtney and Pat, who becomes the girl’s mentor as he helps her manage her powers and understand her place in the superhero world.
The plot also features several flashbacks that explore the history of the JSA and its original members, including Alan Scott(Green Lantern), Jay Garrick (Flash), and Ted Grant (Wildcat). These flashbacks offer a deeper look at the history of superheroes in Stargirl’s world and help create a sense of connection between the original members of the JSA and their descendants.
